Have you ever read Deutoronomy 11?
It states in the first few verses, “Remember today that your children were not the ones who saw and experienced the discipline of the LORD your God: his majesty, his mighty hand, his outstretched arm…” and then in verse 18 it goes on to say..”Fix these words of mine in your hearts and minds; tie them as symobls on you hands… Teach them to your children, talking about them when you sit at home.”
It brought to mind the importance of family in the training of a child. This child with differing experiences and forming brand new memories, rather than those of their previous generation. It addresses the way that we carry out the laws of the LORD, as well as the children receiving them. This is not something to be taken lightly. We all have a problem of forgetfulness. We are indeed prone to it.
However this scripture reminds us that in remembrance we can find our blessing (v.27). But not just remembering what the LORD did, but also in remembering what is “not.” We learned this week about this tiny word “not.” It is actually considered an adverb. A simple, negative… adverb. How can such a tiny word that is not even part of what’s needed to complete a sentence, be such an impactful piece of eternity? Just as well it is used when talking about our children. It is used in a family context. Perhaps that is one of the few settings that it has the most significant impact.
